DR STEVE HUGH AWARD FOR QUALITY IN PRIMARY CARE 2009
July 27, 2009
Shropdoc is currently seeking nominations for the annual Dr Steve Hugh Award for Quality in Primary Care.
Since its inception in 1996, Shropdoc has always aspired to provide the very highest standards of care to our patients. Much of this ethos was introduced and promoted by Telford GP Dr Steve Hugh, who was our Medical Manager from 1997 until his untimely death in 2005. Steve’s enthusiasm and dedication to high quality Primary Care pervaded our whole organisation and will continue to influence our policy and organisational development for many years to come.
Friends and colleagues of Steve wished to remember the contribution which he made to the service and Shropdoc. Since 2006 Council has sponsored an Award to either an individual or team who had shown the same drive to provide the very best care in the Primary Care arena. This could be doctors, nurses, therapists or administrative staff – either individually or as a team – whose efforts were worthy of recognition by their peers and the patient population at large. The emphasis of the Award is on quality, whether that be an established form of practice or an innovation, and can include someone with a long history of providing excellent care to their patients or who have made a recent significant impact on their area of work.
The ‘Dr Steve Hugh Award’ is presented annually and is based on recommendations from within the Shropshire and Powys health community. Each recommendation will be nominated by a proposer who will provide a brief summary of the person/ team’s contribution for Council to consider. The winner(s) name will be inscribed on the Award plaque, which will be displayed at Shropdoc’s headquarters, and will receive a cash award of £1,000 (£500 to the winner and £500 to a charity or project of their choice).
It is important to recognise, support and reward good practice or innovation wherever it occurs, a sentiment which Steve wholeheartedly promoted.
So look around you and think about your work colleagues – who has shown the idealism, dedication, resourcefulness or sheer hard work which has produced high quality Primary Care for your patients? Let’s celebrate that success and acknowledge their contribution.
I look forward to receiving your nominations.
Yours faithfully
Dr Russell Muirhead
Chairman
